#5 // Yooka-Laylee
Rare’s games were my childhood. Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Conker’s Bad Fur Day – these games are some of my favorites of all time. Not to mention their other games, like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and even Jet Force Gemini.
However, I mentioned those other platformer/collectathon titles first for a reason – Yooka-Laylee.
I spent dozens of hours on each of the old Rare collectathons, and seeing that the old Rare crew got back together to form a new company – complete with a suspiciously familiar logo – and to create a new, spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie ( Yet again, suspiciously similar. ), that was like a Christmas miracle.
Even just the toybox “demo” ( Which isn’t really a “demo” and is more of a developer sandbox ) that was released to Kickstarter backers already feels on par with their previous work. Controls are tight and responsive and the visuals are sharp and vivid.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the final product.
